In the event of a serious accident, law enforcement can quickly reach someone who will speak for you in the event you cannot speak for yourself – if you submit your emergency contact information. By providing the details of your emergency contacts, the information will be stored in a secure database that is accessible only by law enforcement, available when needed.
I urge you to take a few minutes to use PennDOT’s Emergency Contact Information System to update your emergency contact so that your loved ones will be able to be contacted should you be seriously injured.
Here’s how to use PennDOT’s Emergency Contact Information System:
- Log in to the Online Emergency Contact System on the PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services website.
- Enter the Driver’s License/ID number, date of birth and last four digits of the Social Security number for yourself or the person for whom you are entering emergency contact information.
- Enter the details of your desired emergency contacts, including their name, relationship to the person for whom you the information is being entered, address, and phone numbers to reach them.
- Submit the information.
You can update this information, quickly, at any time. I just submitted mine in under five minutes. A few minutes of preparation can save hours if authorities are trying to contact your relatives in the event of an accident. Additionally, you can sign up for PennDOT’s Yellow Dot program.
