Over 1,000 independent agents from across the country traveled to the nation’s capital for the annual legislative conference.  With congressional hearings on Capitol Hill, we met with lawmakers about issues that are important to our clients and fellow small business owners.  Kate was one of thirty IA&B members who took their message to Washington, D.C. discussing five top issues with federal lawmakers.

This year’s conference focused on these five issues facing independent agents:

  • Ensure state implementation of federal data privacy standards
  • Maintain small business tax fairness and incentivize mitigation through tax credits
  • Oppose the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) noncompete proposal
  • Extend and reform the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
  • Protect the Federal Crop Insurance Program (FCIP)

“For years I have wanted to attend the conference so I was thrilled to finally participate this year.  As a board member of Insurance Agents & Brokers I knew this was the year to make my dream a reality and get involved.  Meeting with legislators and sharing the challenges we face as insurance providers and small business owners was a one-of-a-kind experience that I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to experience”, said Kate Dawson.  “I’ll absolutely attend again next year.”
